Babooshka

What is a babooshka?

1) Russian for grandmother
"eto maya babooshka"

2) While in no way affiliated with the "Russian grandmother" translation, babooshka is the kindest, most loving term of endearment one can give their main partner. Only to be used in the highest of sickly-sweet romantic situations. Use "booshk" for more casual settings such as a one-night stand.
"I love you more, my baby babooshka"

3) Babooshkas are cantankerous old ladies in Russia who work in public buildings doing more or less nothing at all.
As living throwbacks to the Soviet era, they enforce both real and imagined petty regulations with Stakanovite zeal and enthusiasm.
Museums, cloakrooms, and metro kiosks are their natural habitats.
"That babooshka over there just told me that it's forbidden to look out of the windows!"

Well that was helpful.  I used to just like the sound of the word.  Saying it is so fun... Oh well.  I meant, what is "Babooshka"?  It is an amazing song by Kate Bush, just listen for yourself.  It gets stuck in your head.

She wanted to test her husband.
She knew exactly what to do:
A pseudonym, to fool him.
She couldn't have made a worse move.

She sent him scented letters,
And he received them with a strange delight.
Just like his wife
But how she was before the tears,
And how she was before the years flew by,
And how she was when she was beautiful.
She signed the letter

"All yours,
Babooshka, Babooshka, Babooshka-ya-ya!
All yours,
Babooshka, Babooshka, Babooshka-ya-ya!"

She wanted to take it further,
So she arranged a place to go,
To see if he
Would fall for her incognito.
And when he laid eyes on her,
He got the feeling they had met before.
Uncanny how she
Reminds him of his little lady,
Capacity to give him all he needs,
Just like his wife before she freezed on him,
Just like his wife when she was beautiful.
He shouted out, "I'm

All yours,
Babooshka, Babooshka, Babooshka-ya-ya!
All yours,
Babooshka, Babooshka, Babooshka-ya-ya!
All yours,
Babooshka, Babooshka, Babooshka-ya-ya!"

If you want examples of possible meanings, click here.  I love this song, it is ironic, vivid and with the use of the broken glass, we can picture the wife throwing glass  and what not at her husband.  I really recommend that you listen to her album "The Whole Story", every song on this cd is beautifully written and sung.

Thank you for reading my blog!  I should have time tomorrow to post.  I'm going for a job interview!  I'm so excited! :)  See you all tomorrow!
